My name is Josh Merrow. In the year 2000 I moved to Barcelona, Spain from New York City. As an avid do-it-yourselfer, mechanic, and sculptor I've been carrying a Leatherman with me since I discovered them in 1992. I managed to lose mine, and upon checking european prices discovered that they were a good deal higher than those back home in the USA. I asked my uncle, who is a construction materials wholesaler, to send me a new one. Shortly thereafter friends began asking me if I could get them Leathermen, and the idea for this company was born.
At first I tried to import the tools myself, but the official Leatherman sales network was quick to threaten with lawsuits based on brand registration rules, which prohibit imports from other sources than those officially appointed and I was under constant pressure to offer them at preestablished high consumer prices. Fortunately, consumer protection and free trade rules exhaust brand protection after import and as already imported Leatherman tools are being offered reglarly in several EU countries, I can keep offering them to you at reasonable prices without having to fear legal action from Leatherman and its distributors.
Since then I have sold Leatherman tools and other products to customers all over Europe via this website, web classifieds, and through friends and colleagues.
Although I accept returns, the quality of Leatherman tools and the rest of the products I sell is such that I've yet to receive one. I ship orders the same day via UPS 24 hour express. Thus far I have 100% happy customers.
With time I have added several other products to our catalogue and thanks to a positive public response, business is steadily growing. With the exception of Leatherman tools, Spyderco knives, and Maglite flashlights, we import all other items ourselves. Americanexports isn't a faceless mail-order house, it's a small business with a real person behind it. I look forward to hearing from you.
